Regardless of whether you do as well as you think you can, there are a few ways that being an interim boss you can help you. A few of them are:

- Improve your job performance –

Stepping outside the realm of your normal everyday work can help give you some perspective. Being in your boss' shoes might be able to help you evaluate what you are doing and ways that you can be more efficient and effective in your current job. Then, when you go back to your regular job your performance will be better.

- Expand your skills –

This is kind of like the previous point except that being an interim boss can help you learn more skills. If you are an interim boss you will probably be doing things that you don't normally do, which means that you will have to be learning new skills to be able to effectively be the boss. These new skills can help you with your current job and just in future jobs.
